"I'm happiest when I'm being a tourist, visiting historic places. I try to imagine what it must have been like for the people who first built these places to live and work there. This is one of the reasons Gotland is such a great place for me to work... from the Bronze Age ship-shaped graves to the ancient walls of Visby, it's just a wonderful place to be.
I really enjoy teaching, and many of the assignments I give require the students to broaden their minds and be creative. I love seeing the work they do. It's imaginative and entertaining. It sets off ideas in my own mind as well.
I'm not sure I have a hidden talent. What few talents I have are pretty much on display. I do have a brain full of historical trivia, which is sometimes useful.
I'm currently reading a book about William Marshal, a great English knight who lived through one of the most turbulent periods in English history and was an adviser to three kings: Henry II, Richard the Lionheart, and King John, who was probably the worst king of England in all history."
