Welcome information Visby Autumn 2017

We hope you are as excited as we are about your arrival in Visby for studies at Campus Gotland this autumn! With this page we want to inform you about the orientation activities we have planned.

Orientation Day

It is recommended that international students arrive in Visby by Thursday 24th August or earlier to be able to attend the Orientation Day, Friday 25th August between 9:00 and 14:00. We begin by assembling at 8:45 in the reception area. The Orientation Day programme is designed to welcome and introduce international students to the university, Campus Gotland, and to Visby. You will be informed about the resources available to you as a student, along with other useful tips to assist and guide you through your stay. Information about the course Basic Swedish 1 will be presented and Roll-call for Bachelor's and Master's programmes will be conducted.

Welcome Reception

On Monday 28th August there will be a Welcome Reception for all new students at Campus Gotland. We assemble at Rindiborgen at 1.30pm and the Campus Gotland knight will lead the way through town to the reception that will be held at S:t Nicolai ruin between 14:00 and 15:00. The reception will primarily be held in Swedish, but we hope all international students will feel just as welcomed and we encourage you to attend!

The Student Union Rindi also organises welcome activities: a number of social events will be arranged for all newly arrived international and Swedish students during the first two weeks of the semester, starting on Monday 28th August at 6pm. International students will receive information about the "lamning" activities during Orientation Day.

Information Fair and guided tours

On Wednesday 30th August, there will be an Information Fair and “fika” (coffee/tea) on campus, between 11am and 1pm. At this event you can meet with representatives from Campus Gotland, the Library, the Student Union Rindi, amongst others. The fair will be located on the ground floor of Betty Petterssons hus, building D.

On Friday 1st September and Monday 4th September, you can take a tour around Visby's medieval wall with the Visby train, a tourist train, and get to experience Visby's amazing history (recorded guiding in both Swedish and English). The train tour departs twice per hour at the main entrance of Campus Gotland, at 11:00, 11.30, 12:00 and 12:30 on Friday and at 12:00 and 12:30 on Monday, and will last around 25 minutes. Be prepared to wait for your turn (about 50 places/tour).

In addition, Campus Gotland offers a guided bus tour on the northern countryside of Gotland on Wednesday 6th September between 13:00 and 17:00. You will be able to sign up for this tour during Orientation Day or at the Information Fair event. A sandwich and water is included, free of charge. Seats are limited so this offer is on a first come, first served basis.
